NOTE: THE CLINIC IS CURRENTLY UNABLE TO ACCEPT ANY NEW REFERRALS
The fee for a 50+ minute session is $230, regardless of referral pathway or if the session is for assessment or treatment. The fee for a session is payable upon the completion of the session via card (cash is not accepted). Some clients may be eligible for a rebate of part of the session fee. See below for further information regarding rebates.
The clinic provides a HICAPS terminal to process both fees and rebates. Clients who are eligible for a Medicare rebate can have their rebate processed on the day of the session through Easyclaim on HICAPS. A rebate may also be processed for the majority of Private Health Insurance Funds through HICAPS on the day of the session. For those that cannot be processed at the clinic, an invoice will be provided to the client in order to make their own claim. Note: Only one rebate (either Medicare or Private Health Fund) can be claimed per session.
Medicare Rebates
One of the most affordable ways to access psychological therapy is through a referral by your GP, psychiatrist or pediatrician, under the Better Access Mental Health Scheme. Before booking your first appointment, contact your treating specialist (GP, psychiatrist or pediatrician) to discuss your health care needs and circumstances - you may need to request a longer consultation with your specialist to do this. Your specialist will determine if a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) is appropriate for you, and if so will prepare such a plan. Under a MHTP a client can attend for up to 6 initial sessions with a psychologist. After the initial sessions and review, an additional 4 sessions may be accessed for those clients that require additional support. A maximum of 10 Medicare rebated sessions can be claimed by a client per year.
Further information about MHTPs can be found in the Department of Health Fact Sheet for Patients or at the Australian Psychological Society website.
The current medicare rebate for a clinical psychologist is $141.85 per session, leaving a gap payment (out-of-pocket) expense of $88.15 that is payable by the client.
Private Health Insurance Fund Rebates
Some clients may be eligible for a rebate on psychological services from a Private Health Insurance Fund. Whether or not a client is eligible and the amount of rebate they will receive depends on a variety of factors including the insurer/provider, the policy, level and type of cover as well as claim limits. It is recommended that clients contact their Private Health Insurance Provider to ascertain if they are first, eligible for a rebate and second, the amount of rebate they can expect per session.
Private Client - Full Fee
Some clients choose to attend sessions without accessing a MHTP or using a Private Health Fund, each individual's circumstances will vary. Some clients attend initial sessions privately and later determine that they may be eligible to access Medicare benefits or use their Private Health Insurance Fund. At times, some clients continue as private clients once they have utilised all their rebated sessions through Medicare and/or a Private Health Fund.
If you would like further information regarding fee options prior to engagement please send a message via email or discuss this during your initial contact with Kelly.
Please Note: A $115 + GST fee will be payable if a session is cancelled with less than 48 hours notice of the appointment, or for non-attendance without notice. This fee cannot be rebated by Medicare or a Private Health Insurance Fund. Payment of this fee is required prior to booking a subsequent session. Extenuating circumstances will be taken in to consideration prior to applying this fee.
